Freelance writing is famously unpredictable. As in, you could be a freelance writer one day and a recruiter the next. This blog may have taken a sudden change in direction, but I promise to try and keep it interesting.

I wrote up some ‘helpful tips for a job search’ on TRAC Recruiting’s Facebook page (which you should “Like”), so I figured I’d post them here too. I talk to a lot of different people on a daily basis, but the first impressions people make - whether by voicemail or resume - can be even more... interesting.
Without further ado, the tips:
With unemployment levels at an all-time high, recruiters and employers are receiving hundreds of resume for each posted position. Consider these suggestions to help you stand out in the saturated job seeker pool:

-	Sign up for a professional email address – even if you only use it for employment purposes – like your.name@gmail.com. Should you continue to use your old email address, I guarantee you will nervously laugh when a recruiter confirms that your email is angelbaby7364@aol.com.

-	Remove any and all ringback tones on your cell phone. Recruiters and employers do not want to listen to a Top 40 hit – in the worst possible quality, to boot – when trying to reach you.

-	Compose a professional voicemail greeting on your phone. A simple, “Hi, you’ve reached so and so, please leave a message and I’ll return your call as soon as possible,” will do.

-	If you haven’t already, contact TRAC Recruiting for a resume and cover letter consultation. Together, we can create a detailed, yet concise, resume that eliminates your life story while including the important information, such as dates of employment and relevant achievements.

These small steps can make a big difference in your job search. Contact TRAC Recruiting today for more tips when job hunting, and to hear about amazing career opportunities with Hair Club for Men.

I bid the coastal life farewell and am an official resident of Los Angeles County - I even have the driver’s license to prove it. I miss Carlsbad and the Coast News something awful but LA has been pretty swell so far.
With said big move, I’ve taken a quick break from freelance writing as I delve deeper into the world of recruiting. It’s a tough business, but someone has to do it. I’m working alongside my stepmom at TRAC Recruiting and having an absolute blast (fun fact - I’m the “A” in TRAC!).
I needed to decompress from writing 24/7 and recruiting is a welcomed distraction. However, I’m still encountering my fair share of interesting people and feel compelled to document it. Stay tuned for... “Tales of a Recruiter.”

I’m no expert and was already doubting the authenticity before I visited it, but the roommate and I decided to to stop by anyway. Because what if it turned out to be claimed by Banksy? And we missed it?
Of course, we took the rumors very seriously... maybe. And then we walked around a not scary part of Oceanside. Productive afternoon.
ETA: Banksy’s PR people said the piece is a fake. No surprise there.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between what’s work and what’s just walking to the bakery to grab a cupcake, okay? Carlsbad does that to you.
Anyway, here’s a collection of pictures from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure in Orlando. I’m obsessed with the Harry Potter series, so this is a really important blog entry.

From top, left to right: my brother, me and Hogwarts; Support Potter banner from the Tri-Wizard cup-themed ‘Dragon Challenge’; mandrakes; owl post.

From top, left to right: my not-so-little brother “enjoying” candy from Honeydukes; Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans at Honeydukes; talking pictures in Hogwarts; me and some ehhhh butterbeer.
I want to go back to there.

That should hardly be considered “work,” but keep in mind I cover City Council every week. I deserved this.
